My son (4th grade) is doing distance learning so he is stuck in front of a computer for the day and being ADHD is a challenge for him to just sit there and pay attention. He got him this chair so he can bounce and burn of the energy while he attends his online classes.
I switched from a crappy office chair to a ball for a couple of weeks, but I found it impossible to move around my desk space with any sort of convenience. Additionally, in order to reach my desk, I had to sit on a ball far too big for my frame, which gave me achy hips. This Gaiam Ball Chair is the perfect blend of a chair and a ball. The wheels work well on the flat carpet in my office, and I never feel unstable during the day. I can move from one end of my long desk to the other with no difficulty at all. There's an insert that warns you the ball will seem/feel too small for the chair when you first set it up. THIS IS TRUE. Don't panic; it will stretch out with a few days' time, just as the insert claims. I'm currently at 25 hours of the chair being set up, and the ball has already stretched and relaxed to become visibly bigger. I currently have it inflated to a point that's a bit too firm for my comfort, but I expect to be able to decrease the air pressure as the ball stretches a bit more in the next few days.My butt was sore after using it the first day, but the soreness is not lasting. This is great for anyone who is a wiggler, fidgeter, or otherwise restless at their desk. Set up took me all of 10 minutes (and that's with ball inflation) and was easy to understand. No tools needed (it comes with a tiny wrench and the air pump).**8 MONTH UPDATE** I've been using this chair 5 days a week since I bought it and it's amazing. Any soreness I had disappeared after a month. The ball has stretched to a great size now and totally looks like the photo. The height is good for my desk; just today, I added more air to the ball and I realized how much bigger it could get now! If you're on the fence about this, or if you just purchased it and you're feeling some buyer's remorse, stick with it! It's so worth the time.
I followed the instructions that someone posted on another review and it seems great. Big enough, no issues. I filled it as big as it could go and then the next day let some air out and then blew it up some more. I am 5'6" and pretty plump and it fits me perfectly. I probably could even take a little air out. I only put a 4 for Pain Relief as I'm not sure just yet. I think its going to take some getting used to. I am the type that leans back in the chair so those core muscles aren't what they should be. But very easy to put together and to inflate. But it does say on the exercise guide - DO NOT LEAN BACK - the back is only for stability when doing the exercises.
Takes a while to get used to but it's a great chair. Keeps me upright but that's after getting used to using muscles that I didn't know that I had :)Great customer service as well! I had issues with the locking mechanism with 1 wheel and they sent me replacements right awayOverall, I'd surely recommend this to you as well as my friends
LOVE it! You do have to add more air the next day after you blow up the ball the first time, but the chair feels very comfortable. I am buying another one for my office! Note that you may have to place a towel on top of the ball before you sit down because the ball skin is kinda sticky and others have noted that this may do some damage to your pants. Or, you can buy the Gaiam ball cover, but at $30, it probably is not worth it. Find a towel of the same color and you are good to go. If you are not used to sitting straight or your core muscles are very weak, this chair will strengthen them but in the first few days, you may have to not sit on it for too long. Because your core muscles work harder to keep your balance on the ball, they may feel tired if they are not used to it. But do continue because in the long run you will have a smaller core. I have sat on a ball previously but the chair base helps much more with the stability and you still have to work your core because you still have instability under your butt. I measured the height of the chair with ball from the floor up and found that the height is even more than the height of my normal office chair, even though the chair as a whole looks small compared to the office chair. You can then adjust how much the ball needs to be inflated to get to a height that's convenient and comfortable for you.
